The Botswana Gambling Authority continues to work on expanding and fully legalizing the country's gambling market, including the process of granting licenses and updating the regulatory framework. The regulator's new steps are aimed at creating a transparent and sustainable legal regime for operators working in the field of betting, totalizators, and slot machines.
As part of the current stage of preparation for full legalization, the regulator has published the final version of the Request For Approval (RFA) document, which contains the requirements and procedure for reviewing license applications. This document is already available for purchase and forms the basis for the further selection of license applicants under the auspices of enhanced legal control.
Along with the expansion of licensing mechanisms, the country continues to actively expand the legal market: the Botswana Gambling Authority has issued ten national licenses to bookmakers, some of which have already started operations, contributing to the creation of more than 400 jobs and subsequent growth in employment in the sector. The total number of jobs in the gambling sector, including casinos, betting shops, and limited payout machines (LPMs), could increase to several thousand in the near future.
Regulatory developments in Botswana are taking place against a backdrop of increased activity in the gambling sector, where the proportion of regular participants remains high and government authorities are focusing on both economic indicators and responsible gaming aspects.
For Wolbis, such reforms in international markets create an additional opportunity to expand its presence in Africa. A transparent and predictable legal environment opens up prospects for participation in licensing, facility management, technology integration, and service offerings in new jurisdictions. The acceleration of the legalization process and the growth in the number of licensed operators also contribute to strengthening the investment climate and may become the foundation for future Wolbis projects in Botswana and regions with similar regulatory policies.
The positive dynamics of the regulatory environment and market development confirm that carefully structured interaction with government regulators can be an important element of the company's international strategy for business expansion and investment in sustainable projects.
